Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver for a 1989 Ford F-250

Question:

IMy truck is a 1989 F250 4.9 with a T18 manual tranny and a granny low, and a highboy type heavy duty suspension. I want to pull my vintage 1957 Spartan Royal Mansion T42 house trailer with my truck. The trailer is 42foot long and weighs 7,770 lbs with the built-ins in it but none of my stuff. I connected the truck to the trailer. The truck moved the trailer without any difficulty whatsoever but, I discovered that my big olfoot industrial looking step-bumper mounted hitch was nowhere near adequate. The bumper sank nearly to the ground while the truck suspension did not sink at all. I thought the bumper was going to come off the truck. I rented a truck to pull the trailer. Is there some kind of frame mounting system I can get for my step-bumper so that the truck and not the bumper alone will take the load? Thanks,

Due to the weight of your trailer, you are going to want to install a frame mounted trailer hitch on your 1989 Ford F-250. The weight capacity of the trailer is going to far exceed the weight capacity of the bumper as I am sure you have already figured out. They also do not make any sort of kit to strengthen the rear bumper to my knowledge therefore the frame mounted trailer hitch will be your best option.

For this, I recommend using the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C15511. This hitch is a fit for your F-250 but will require minor drilling. It has a weight capacity of 15,000 lbs gross trailer weight (GTW) and 1,500 lbs tongue weight (TW). The hitch is made right here in the U.S.A and comes with a lifetime warranty.
