Recommended Safety Chains for a 1998 Jayco Travel Trailer

Updated 05/17/2018 | Published 05/16/2018

Question:

Hello, I have a 98 Jayco TT at 7000lbs. I am switching tow vehicles and I discovered the safety chains are too short. Is there a way to add to the existing chains or should I replace them? If replacing, could you please explain the ratings on your chains? Right now they are 28inch per side from attachment point to hook. I need to extend each side by 6inch to 8. Thanks!

I do have an option but we do not have any way for you to safely add onto your existing chains. It would be difficult to match the grade and construction of the chain as well so it will be better to just replace them altogether. For this, I recommend using the Safety Chain with Clevis Hook part # FCHA0050324.

These chains measure to be 42" long. If you have any excess you can just loop them around one another to get rid of any slack. The strength of the chain has to do with the grade it is given. This chain has a grade 70 rating which gives it a 18,800 lb weight capacity. It also has a clevis hook with keeper for security. You will need one per side for a total of two chains.

I have attached a review video of the above chains for you as well.
