For your 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4, and your 8x 20 cargo trailer, I do recommend you use weight distribution with integrated sway control. For your system, I base my recommendation on estimated loaded tongue weight between 10 and 15 percent of your trailer weight which is the normal range. I've attached an article to further help.
My recommendation is the Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control - Trunnion # RP66559 which is rated for total tongue weight ranging from 500 to 1000 lbs. You will also need a hitch ball like # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch diameter or # A-90 for a 2 inch diameter ball.
If you have a 2-1/2 inch receiver opening, then I recommend shank # C17131 as well.
