Question:
Hello, i have a enclosed trailer where when at the track wed like to power the lights inside the trailer but dont want to drain the battery on the truck, we have a generator that produces a 12v dc output. That being said would i be able to take a 7 pin trailer plug and attach a 12v plug to it to connect to the generator?

Expert Reply:
Generators do not typically have a 12 volt power converter, so I recommend using the Battery Charger and Maintainer # CTEK56353 and splicing the connector that would go to the battery terminals into a 7-way connector like # 30717. You will connect the black end of the charger wiring to the white wire of the 7-way and the red wire of the charger wire to the black wire of the 7-way. This will give you the 12V power to your trailer from your generator through the trailer plug connection.
You may want to consider mounting the 7-way to your generator frame using # 18138 to keep it off the ground and prevent moisture or connection issues.
