Question:

I have the Trutrack 17500 which is rated for 1000lb tongue weight and 10,000 gtw. The camper I am pulling is only about 5000 lbs with about a 500lb tongue weight. Would I be able to use these lighter spring bars with my existing hitch to improve the handling? I currently experience a little bit of sway at times.

Expert Reply:

In order to use the lighter spring bars # C17535 (sold in quantities of 1) you would also have to replace the head because the different TruTrack systems use different heads. The head you would need is # C17506.

For about the same cost as replacing those 3 components you can get a whole new lower capacity Fastway system, # FA92-00-0600, which is rated for 250 to 600 pounds tongue weight, or # FA92-00-0800, which is rated up to 800 pounds tongue weight. You can reuse the ball that you currently have with either of these systems.
