What is the Tongue Weight Capacity of a 2018 Kia Sorento
Updated 04/02/2018 | Published 03/31/2018 >
Question:
I saw some commentary on Kia Sorrento hitches. I am looking specifically to find something to transport a dirt bike. I dont want to buy a trailer, but Im not sure if these other types of transports Ive seen, that work more like a bicycle rack, will work with my vehicle. Its brand new and I dont want to damage it. Do you sell these types of racks, and do you know if they will work with my vehicle? It is AWD- I think has 5,000 lb towing capacity, Burt I dont know how to determine weight limit on that back bumper. Anything that you can tell me to help for my new dirt bike would be appreciated.

The tongue weight capacity of your 2018 Kia Sorento will vary depending on engine size. If you have the 2.4L I4 engine then your maximum tongue weight capacity is 280 lbs but if you have the 3.3L V6 engine then your maximum tongue weight capacity is 350 lbs. Therefore, as long as the weight of the carrier and dirt bike do not exceed these figures then you will be able to safely carry it.
For this you will need both a trailer hitch and motorcycle carrier. For a trailer hitch, I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 75908 which is a Class III hitch with a 2" receiver tube opening. The hitch has a maximum tongue weight capacity of 500 lbs but since the vehicle is lower, that will be the capacity that you must abide by. Then for a motorcycle carrier, I recommend the etrailer Motorcycle Carrier part # e98873 which has ramps for easy loading, safety reflectors for increased visibility at night, and only weighs 58 lbs.
I have attached an install video of the above hitch for you as well.
