Helpful Expert Reply:
The rule of thumb for servicing trailer wheel bearings is to clean them out, inspect and re-pack them every 12 months or 12,000-miles, whichever comes first. This and other routine trailer maintenance guidelines are covered in the linked article. This is a good reference guide for helping you keep your trailer in the safest and most road-worthy condition.
I also linked articles on re-packing bearings and on grease formulas. These are good to review also since some grease formulations are compatible with each other but others are not.
