Gauge Wire Recommendation for Wiring up Trailer Brakes

Question:

I will soon be picking up a 1984 Aljo Aly 24ft bumper pull camper. Its been parked under a roof for 7 years. I plan to replace all of the brake wiring and trailer light wiring. The trailer is 4000 lbson the title. What guage wire should I run for the brakes? Should I just run a power wire, and ground each magnet at the frame near the wheel, or should I run 2 conductor wire and ground somewhere else?

I'd recommend using 10 gauge wire like part # 10-2-1 (sold by the foot) for the brake power and ground wires as this will be more than adequate and will ensure you get plenty of amperage to activate the brakes.

Grounding the magnets to the frame would work just fine. For that you'd want the single strand wire # 10-1-1 if you went that route. Or you could use the # 10-2-1 to run the ground back to the connector.
