In a 2005 Dodge Ram pickup with 5.7L V8 Hemi a cartridge style block heater such as # KH11816 will install in an engine block cavity. There is no need to remove the core frost plug as with other types of block heaters that need to be immersed. This heater is held in place with the included clip.
I confirmed with my contact at Kat's that this is the correct item for your vehicle. The recommended installation point is the block cavity near the left rear of the engine, closest to the seated driver.
The power cord on the heater is removable so that you won't need to buy a whole new heater if the cord gets damaged. The cord can be routed through your grille for easy access to a 120-volt outlet or extension cord.
