Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

Super fast shipping and good phone help as per etrailer!
Tire tech had some problem getting one of the tires
mounted due to its being compressed for shipping
purposes. Maybe a note should be added in listing about this issue
or video of technique used to assist the tire tech.
Thanks

Tires did what I needed them to do. I did have them balanced as it made all four roll with no vibration. I recommend the balancing. It made all the difference.

Have had these tires for a year now. Replaced tires on my trailer and hauled my winter supply of wood pellets with great results!! Thanks e-trailer

Working well. Glad I bought them.

Shipment was quick and just what I ordered. They match the spare I already had on my boat trailer. Had them mounted locally and now trailer is rolling as good as new.
I am happy with my purchase.

Trailer tires are working great on long trips.

by:

I gave them a poor rating before but have change my rating. They originally sent me the wrong item, but they were very helpful in sending the item back and a week later I had the correct item in good shape. Everyone was very pleasant and helpful that I talked to. They also priced matched my items.

Ordered 2 new Kenda tires for my popup camper, using website to order was quite easy and delivery was as promised. Will do busines with etrailer again in the future. Camper had the original Kenda tires and they kasted 15 years with alot of use.

by:

Just received an email from Katherine at etrailer stating that UPS delivered my package and it was on the front porch. Sure enough, there it was and I couldn't be more pleased. Haven't had an opportunity to install the tires or brake controller but etrailer directed me to a page that has great information about both products. Nice job folks and I will definitely purchase from you again. I paid with PayPal and it couldn't have been easier. Thanks again, Jim M.

by:

Service was great and got here quickly. .!!

by:

All I can say is wow, ordered new trailer tires and they arrived two days later. The new tires are date coded 2819 and 4619 so both are less than a year old, which is great. The old tires were almost 18 years old and though they still looked good I didn’t want to take a chance on a 2500 mile round trip to Daytona with the motorcycle on back. I already mounted them and serviced the trailer, so I’m ready to roll. Loadstar 175/80 D13 LRC.

by:

I have ordered two of these in separate orders. The tires look good and were very well packaged. They arrived very quickly. They are identical replacements for those on a boat trailer I bought 9 years ago. They did wear funny. One was worn in the middle and the other on the outer edges. Don’t know why. Both were inflated to 50 psi as is indicated on the trailer placard. I can’t complain though. They had lots of hard use.

by:

I’ve used these tires for about 4000 miles over the past year on my motorcycle trailer. Stable, good tread wear.

by:

Thank you for making it easy and quick enough for me. The tires and wheel are just what I ordered and needed for my trailer. Look forward to ordering from you'll in the future. You were recommend by a friend.

by:

Tires are a great replacement on my 2000 loadrite tandem trailer. Perfectly satisfied going into my 2nd season.

by:

I’m very satisfied with the overall quality of the loadstar tire it lasted 5 years before needing replacement

by:

Fairly good set of tires for my boat trailer. The previous set wore funny but that was after 8 years of use.

by:

Accurate, timely, professional service from etrailer.com

by:

Got what I ordered and sooner than it was due. Can't beat that.

by:

I purchased two trailer tires. Ordering process was easy, product received when promised.

by:

I haven’t installed my lights and tires yet but I couldn’t wait. Based on customer service and timely delivery alone, Hanna, Carol and George, awesome! Thank you!

by:

Perfect. Came shipped 2 per box which i figured they would be shipped loose. Mounted up fine and trailered well this past weekend. Etrailer gets it right everytime.

by:

Great service, fast delivery! Doesnt get much better! Thanks etrailer!

  • Difference Between Kenda AM1ST51 & Loadstar AM1ST76 ST175/80D13 Trailer Tires
You were right that there is very little difference between the two ST175/80D13 trailer tires you mentioned, which are the following: - Kenda ST175/80D13 Bias Trailer Tire # AM1ST51 - Loadstar ST175/80D13 Bias Trailer Tire # AM1ST76 The only difference really is the tread, and I have added a photo for you showing the different tread patterns of both tires. The Kenda has straight grooves running along the tire, so it will be slightly better for wetter conditions; so if you live in an...

I asked our resident tire expert about the # AM1ST51 and # AM1ST76 tires and what may be the difference. We pulled both tires from our warehouse and compared all of the numbers and specs. We found no difference between the two tires other than the tread design. I have attached a photo of each tire tread design you can check out. They are both Load Range C bias-ply ST175/80D13 tires. I recommend going with the less-expensive option, part # AM1ST51.

  • Will 175/80-13 Tires Work In Place of a 175/70-13 on a Boat Trailer?
The Loadstar ST175/80D13 # AM1ST76 you found is going to have the same with as your 175/60R13 but the new tire is going to be slightly taller at 24" versus 22.6" on your tire. This means the new tire will sit 0.7" closer to your fender and any other parts such as steps which you may have. We typically like to see at least 3" of vertical travel between the fender and tire surface for suspension travel and clearance. So if you have 3.7" currently with tire this will be enough for the taller tire.

  • Bias Versus Radial Trailer Tires for a Pop Up Camper
The Loadstar ST175/80D13 trailer tire, # AM1ST76, is a good tire for a pop up camper. But if you will be towing the trailer often or over long distances, a radial tire, # AM10199, would be a better choice. Radial tires track better and offers more contact with the ground. More ground contact improves traction and will provide better tread wear. Radial tires are also have more stability than a bias ply tire. Radials also run cooler if they are not overloaded. This helps the tire last...

  • Can My Spare Trailer Tire Be A Lower Load Range Than The Rest Of My Tires
Typically higher load ranges of tires means higher capacity and a higher max PSI. While the same tire in load range C, Loadstar ST175/80D13 Bias Trailer Tire part # AM1ST76 has a maximum 1,360 lbs at 50 psi. • Tire Recommendation for a Trailer Used on Paved and Dirt Roads Size 175/80-13
The best tire for your trailer will really depend on how much time you spend on paved roads versus dirt or gravel roads. At the 175/80-13 tire size, you can choose between a radial tire and a bias ply tire. Radial tires, like part # AM10210, have more flex, better ground contact, traction, tread wear and runs cooler than a bias ply tire. A bias ply tire, like part # AM1ST77 has a thicker sidewall and is ideal for off-road use, but if you spend more time traveling on paved roads, a radial...

The speed rating is 81 mph for the Loadstar ST175/80D13 Bias Trailer Tire - Load Range C # AM1ST76, but I definitely do not recommend them for highway use, despite that. The reason for that is they are a bias tire, which means they are very stiff, will run hotter, and won't last as long on highway use as a radial tire.
