Why Should Rubber Strip Be Installed With TracVan on 2008 Ford E-150 Van

Question:

I have a 2008 ford e150 van. I just purchased the Tracvan 29056 set and in the instructions in several place it states DO NOT install the rubber strips for a 2000+ford e150 vans. I dont understand why because it seems like the corner brackets would damage or dig into the gutter of the van. Its not clear to me why they say not to install the strips

I attached a picture that I took from the instructions for the TracRac # TH29056XT that you referenced that shows the tech tip for the Ford E-150s like what you have. The issue is the shape of the Ford gutter. The strip pushes the J-hook clip far enough away from the gutter that it doesn't reach.
