Based on your information, I recommend the Draw-Tite Class IV Ultra Frame Hitch, Item # 41901, which is a confirmed fit for your 1997 Chevrolet C/K Series Pickup with standard bumper. This hitch is specially designed for heavy-duty towing with a maximum weight capacity of 10,000-lbs and a maximum tongue weight capacity of 1,000-lbs. It does not work with short beds.
If you have a short bed, I recommend the Draw-Tite Multi-Fit Hitch, Item # 37130. This hitch is specially designed for heavy-duty towing with a maximum weight capacity of 7,000-lbs and a maximum tongue weight capacity of 700-lbs.
If you do not already have it then you will need a wire kit like the Tekonsha 4-Pole Hardwire Kit, Item # 18252, and/or the ow Ready 5th Wheel/Gooseneck Pigtail Wiring Harness with 7-Way, RV-Style Connector - 4' Long # 20024, if towing fifth wheel or gooseneck trailers.
Make sure to check your owner's manual for towing instructions and weight limits.
If these will not work for you, send me more details about what you will be towing and your truck bed size and I will make a correct recommendation.
I have also attached additional information for you to check out.
