Question:
How do I tell what type axles are on my Jayco 2017 Jayfeather 25? Does it have self adjusting brakes?

Expert Reply:
Recreational trailers have either leaf spring axles or torsion axles. A leaf spring axle is easy to identify since it will be bolted to a leaf spring stack. A torsion axle does not use leaf springs to absorb road shock; instead the axle tube contains 4 rubber cords that provide the flexing to absorb shock. Torsion axles will have their spindle not straight on the end of the axle but instead on an arm that pivots, as shown in the linked photo I prepared for you.
You can contact Jayco with your trailer VIN to confirm all factory equipment installed on it, including the axle type and weight rating.
The Jayco website indicates the 2017 Jayco Feather 25BH has a GVWR of 6750-lbs so it is likely to have tandem 3500-lb axles. It does not specify the brake type but 3500-lb axles typically use 10 x 2-1/4-inch brakes like the etrailer self-adjusting brake pair # AKEBRK-35-SA.
