I’m looking to upfit my 2017 f250 super duty with the gen-y 6” torsion hitch. I plan to use this as a daily hitch towing a 8.5’x18’ enclosed car trailer with tandem 5200# axels that I will be carrying lawn equipment and hand tools in. I’m guessing loaded weight will be around 6000# as the trailer is a full aluminum frame and roughly weighs 2400#s. I would consider the smaller 2” drawbar rated for 16000# but I am afraid that because it is a 7.5” that it may drag in some instances. Is the 2.5” drawbar with 6” overkill? I really like the idea of removing the wear and tear away from the truck as much as possible and this is the reason I am looking at the torsion hitches rather than a plain hitch. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The Gen-Y Torsion 2-Ball Mount # 325-GH-1324 is a beast. If your 2017 Ford F-250 has a 2-1/2 inch receiver opening then you will not be disappointed with this ball mount. If you want something that isn't going to break then you will not be disappointed. If you want to be the envy of all your friends then you won't be disappointed. If there is a tougher ball mount out there I haven't seen it.
If your truck has a 2 inch receiver opening then I recommend going with # 325-GH-1224. It has a 5 inch rise or drop so it won't hang down as far as the 7-1/2 inch model. I have linked video reviews of both ball mounts for you.
Are either of these overkill for your application? Yes, but that is the point of Gen-Y products! But it is possible that since the tongue weight of your trailer will be in the neighborhood of 600 to 900 pounds it may not be heavy enough to fully compress the torsion feature. But if you consider that the tongue weight increases due to uneven roads and bumps and such as you drive then having that torsion feature is still an asset.
