Troubleshooting Short on 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe with Curt Trailer Wiring Installed
Published 01/25/2018 >
Question:
Last year, I purchased a trailer hitch along with a Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness for Factory Tow Package - 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector Item # C56332 for my 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe. A few weeks ago, my left rear tail light went out in my vehicle and my trailer wiring only had the right brake light on and nothing else worked. I took the vehicle to Hyundai service and they found that the wiring harness had shorted out. It had been used previously several times and hadnt been used probably since September. Any thoughts?

The Curt harness part # C55363 is probably not the real reason your lights shorted out, but it probably helped it happen. What would have had to happen was that your trailer's wiring put a short on the circuits of the Curt harness which then transferred to the vehicle and caused the light to stop working.
The harness is just wires without any type of circuit board so it should still be fine unless there's melted or exposed wire on it. Which that would indicate a massive short on your trailer's wiring that you'd need to address.
