2005 Chevy Silverado 12 Volt Trailer Battery Wire for a 7-Way RV Connector

Question:

I have a 2005 silverado. I have a factory installed hitch and trailer wire hookup. the black wire on the pin that sits at 1:00clock as you are looking at the back of the truck is supposed to be a battery hot wire for maintaining the camper battery. but I found that this black wire is dead. where does it pull power from? where will the fuse be? the fuse box under the hood does not have any maxi-fuses. thank you for your help. bill knapp

In the under hood accessory fuse block there are two power posts on the engine side of the block. The post closest to the front of the truck should have a wire connected to it that runs back to the factory trailer connector and provides 12 volt power at the 1:00 position as you have stated.

If there is not a wire present at this location, you may need to run a 10 gauge wire and splice it into the black wire at the back of the vehicle to provide power. If the wire is there, you should check the large 40 amp fuse closest to the power post, and replace it if bad or install one if one is not installed.
