The only difference between the Adapter # 3031-P and Adapter # 3017-P is that the # 3031-P has an additional white wire for grounding on your vehicle. Both are confirmed to fit your 2017 Toyota Tacoma with the factory 7-Way and will allow you to use a brake controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195.
Out of both of them I recommend going with the part # 3031-P as it is the updated version of the # 3017-P from Tekonsha.
If you haven't already decided on a brake controller then I highly recommend the P3 # 90195 that I referenced earlier. This is one of our best-selling brake controllers due to how easy it is to use. The LCD screen let's you use the controller without having to read and remember codes, plus it utilizes storable settings for differing towing setups.
I have attached some videos for you to check out as well. The installation video for the P3 is on a 2013 Tundra with a different adapter, but it installs the same way as the one I recommended.
