The Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller # RED44FR is an excellent choice to tow any trailer that has between 1 to 3 axles (6 brake assemblies). The main feature is the control knob that mounts in dash or other easily accessible area, it allows for fast and easy adjustment of braking power with a turn of the dial.
I checked with the manufacturer to see if this unit will work with an RV with air brakes. The best answer that we received was, the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller # RED44FR operates both electric and electric/hydraulic trailer brakes. Electric and electric/hydraulic trailer brakes can be operated with the Tow-Pro Elite Electric Brake Controller with no user input needed to select the mode.
So in short, per the manufacturer, if you have just, "air brakes" the Tow Pro Elite is not compatible. If your trailer just has air brakes you may want to consider converting them to electric.
However, one of etrailer's most popular proportional brake controllers for vehicles with up to four axles is the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195. It features storable settings letting you customize the controller for multiple trailers, varying loads or different drivers.
I called the manufacturer of the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195, and they said, this brake controller will not work if you are towing an RV with air brakes but, this controller will work using an RV with air brakes towing a trailer with air brakes.
Some motorhomes have connectors for plug-in adapters for a brake controller and if you will let me know the type, make, model and year of your RV then I can help get it installed.
