Can Surge Brakes be Added to 1996 Scamp Trailer that Weighs 2,000 lbs
Published 10/27/2017 >
Question:
Greetings. We tow a 1996 Scamp camper with our Subaru Legacy. Wed like to add surge brakes to the trailer. The problem is that the only A-frame actuator that I can find on your web page is rated at 6000 lbs T2492800 while our trailer is less than 2000 lbs. Will this actuator work well with the drum brakes that would be appropriately sized for our small trailer?

Helpful Expert Reply:
For a lighter A-frame trailer to add a surge brake setup the best option is the part # T2492800 which has a 6k capacity. But as long as you have properly rated brake assemblies on your trailer it will still work fine on a 2,000 lb trailer.
I attached a help article that covers adding surge drum brakes to a trailer for you to check out as well.
