Question:

Does the large size Softride shuttle pad have a felt backing, or is it vinyl that will be against the tail gate? I am concerned about it being abrasive on the paint. I dont intend to leave it on long term, just 40-50 mile one way trips and removing when back home.

The Softride Shuttle Pad Tailgate Bike Carrier for Full-Size Pickup Trucks - 61" Long # SR26457 as well as the smaller 54" long # SR26461 has a heavy duty vinyl cover on both sides. This makes the pad durable, and also won't hold water like a felt backing would. The vinyl is not abrasive to the paint and you won't have any issue with 50 mile one way trips using this product. It is designed to not only protect your bikes with its cushioned design but is also designed to protect your tailgate from scratches and abrasions. I've attached some videos to assist.
