Question:
I have read the QandA where you mentioned using the # C56196 converter but am still a bit confused. Let me explain what I am doing so you can better help answer. I am planning on getting two #STL59RB to replace my current dim 3rd brake lights on my car. It is an old car and did not have a 3rd brake light. I was thinking I can use the white ground wire and the red stop and turn wire and cap off the brown power wire since I do not need to be running the lights all the time just for braking. Am I totally wrong in that thinking since the brake and turn are on the same wire for this light? On my car, the brake has its own separate wire and the turn signal has its own as well.

If you use the stop/turn circuit of your vehicle wire to power just the brighter illumination circuit of the part # STL59RB they would come on with the brake lights as well as with the turn signals.
If you are okay with that then you'd be good, but if you only want the lights to come on with the stoplights then you have to use the converter # C56196 so that you can get the stop circuit by itself.
I attached a diagram that shows how it installs. You do not have to use the diodes seen in the picture which are # RM-690.
