Helpful Expert Reply:
To flat tow your 2011 Chevy Silverado 1500, you will need a base plate kit, tow bar, safety cables, a lighting solution and a supplemental braking system.
Starting with the base plate kit, I recommend the Roadmaster XL Base Plate Kit # 3154-1. These are confirmed to fit your Silverado and feature a hidden bracket design for a nice, clean appearance. These will attach to the truck's frame to provide attachment points for your tow bar. If your truck has tow hooks present, these will need to be removed for installation.
For a compatible tow bar, I recommend the Roadmaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar # RM-520, which has a weight capacity of 6,000 pounds. The extra-long telescoping arms on this unit allow for better maneuverability and easier towing. For safety cables, I recommend the Roadmaster Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables # RM-643.
Moving to a lighting solution, I recommend looking at the Optronics Heavy Duty Magnetic Tow Lights # TL21RK. This will give you the needed stop, turn and tail lights without having to splice into the Silverado's wiring. They will plug in at the rear of your motorhome/RV.
Then for a supplemental braking system, I highly recommend the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR. This is a great proportional system that will physically press the brake pedal in the Silverado at the same time and with the same intensity that you apply to it in your RV.
Lastly, you will likely need a high-low adapter to keep your tow bar level. I have attached an article that explains how to choose the correct one along with a link that will take you to our available selection. I have also included video demonstrations on the products mentioned and an article on flat towing that you might find helpful.
