Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2016 Ram 1500

Question:

Will be towing a 2 horse trailer with a GVWR of 6392 and GCWR of 7000. And a 14 foot utility trailer with a 1958 Massey Ferguson standard tractor on it. Truck is a 2016 Ram 1500 and only needs the receiver hitch to be ready for towing. Which class should I purchase to ensure no problems? Can you provide your P/N in the Draw Tite brand? Thanks

For your 2016 Ram 1500 you can use Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 41948. It has a tongue weight capacity of 1,500 pounds and gross trailer weight capacity of 12,000 pounds so it will cover the weights of the loaded trailers that you have. At least I am pretty sure. I just don't know how much a 1958 Massey Ferguson tractor weighs! I want to say in the neighborhood of 5,000 to 6,000 pounds but I suppose it depends on the exact model. I have included a link to a video showing an example installation for you.

I also recommend etrailer.com Ball Mount Kit - 3" Rise or 4" Drop - 16,000 lbs Item # EBMK2416.

Question:

All I need to be able to tow is the receiver hitch, such as Draw Tite P/N 75662. I do not need the entire piece that connects from rail to rail on the truck. Does anyone offer a receiver hitch such as above P/N in a stronger class other than class 3. I did find out the tractor is 5900 lbs. Thanks for your help. I will purchase from you guys once I can determine just what I need.....Thanks,

The style of hitches such as # 75662 are all going to be Class III options and are rated for 600 pounds tongue weight and 6,000 pounds gross trailer weight. All Rams have the tube structure that those hitches mount to but the capacities top out lower than other options.

To reach the capacities you need a frame mounted hitch such as Draw-Tite hitch # 41948 is required. If you are interested in other brands we also have Curt hitch # C15572. It is a little less money than the Draw-Tite but is still rated for 1,500 pounds tongue weight and 15,000 pounds gross trailer weight.
