Question:
I have accidentally pulled plunger completely out of Breakaway switch The switch body, and now it will not go back in completely. Does my truck have to be connected via 7 pin cord and powered in order to replace it back to Normal? This happened just after I parked my trailer at a remote campsite, and of course there isnt an RV dealer in this little town. Pls help as I must be back on the road in two days. Many thanks in advance.

The plunger can be put back in place without any other functions needed to reassemble. In fact, that is exactly how you test the system for function. If the pin is not able to be put back in place so that the brakes don't lock up, then you can simply disconnect the breakaway battery. As long as there is no power going through the system the brakes will only be active when there is power from the trailer brake controller.
If the way the system was wired, makes the system lock the brakes, you may need to cut a wire or bypass the system temporarily so you can have brakes but lose the breakaway functionality until you can get a working plunger.
The replacement switch with plunger is the Hopkins Replacement Break-Away Switch, 7" Lead Wires # HM20010. If you only need the cable and pin replaced, I recommend the Replacement Cable and Pin for Hopkins LED Breakaway Switches # HM20051.
