Question:
My battery mounts/angle iron interfere with the 4inch load bar mount spacing on the tru track system. Is it ok to mount the system closer to the ball...as in 3? This is with the understanding that the leverage of the bars will be reduced.

Expert Reply:
The recommended position of the sway control brackets on the Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control part # C17500 is 4" in from end of spring bar. If you moved the sway control bracket 3" in from end of spring bar, you risk the chance of the spring bar falling out while making a tight turn. If you moved the sway control brackets closer to the ball mount, you risk minimizing the performance of the system and it's ability to evenly distribute weight. Therefore I cannot recommend you stray from Curt's recommendation of 4" in from end of spring bar.
I recommend relocating your battery to a new suitable location that will not interference with the weight distribution system using a battery relocation kit like the TorkLift HiddenPower part # TLA7726 or installing a weight distribution system that allows for a greater degree of adjustability of the sway control brackets such as the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control part # FA94-00-1061. The sway control braclets included in this kit can be positioned anywhere from 27" - 30" back from center of coupler.
