Question:
I need help in choosing a couple of products to enable me to attache a bike rack KUAT and an extension to my Dodge RAM 1500 CrewCab 4X4 diesel to tow a T@B Outback Camper 1,900 lbs unloaded and up to 2600 lbs fully loaded. I am looking at dual hitch adaptor such as item # MT70070 and an additional 24inch extension for pulling the camper like item # C45048 but for a 2inch hitch receiver not he truck. What can you recommend?

Expert Reply:
The MaxxTow MT70070 will reduce your hitch's overall tongue weight capacity by 50%. This adapter is rated for up to 400 lbs tongue weight and up to 4,000 lbs towing. There is a good chance that tongue weight is going to be an issue with the combination you are looking at based on your hitch using adapters and not the adapter ratings.
You will add the tongue weight of your trailer, the weight of the adapter, and the weight of your bike rack to the reduced tongue weight. When you add another adapter that would definitely put you over on your hitch's tongue weight rating. The longest adapter for a 2 inch hitch we carry is the 18 inches like the # ST18 unless you have a dual hitch receiver and not an adapter. The Curt # C45048 is for 2-1/2 inch receivers.
Let me know the year of your Ram 1500 Crew Cab and we will see if there is a hitch available that can handle the weight.
