Question:
Morning, I have an 04 Explorer with an existing 7 pin that was there on purchase of vehicle. it looks like the harness is plugged into existing trailer harness of SUV on passenger side . For some reason when i take a test light to pins what should be my brake is my running lights and when i check my other lights the only thing working is right turn. My thoughts are that the harness went bad and was thinking i need a new harness. I was looking at the Curt C55242 but did not see that the 04 Explorer on the list of vehicles that is fits. I do also have a brake controller. Thanks

It does sound like the 7-Way connector on your 2004 Ford Explorer is in need of replacement.
To do this, I recommend the Hopkins 7- and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Socket # HM40975. This trailer connector is confirmed to fit your 2004 Ford Explorer with the factory 7-Way connector. The socket will simply connect directly to the Explorer's OEM harness that you mentioned in your question to provide both a 7- and 4-Way connector at the rear of the vehicle. It also includes a mounting bracket for easy, snap-in socket installation.
The Curt # C55242 harness referenced in your question is designed for certain model years of the Ford F-150 and is not compatible with your Ford Explorer.
