How to Determine What Brakes Will Fit a 1965 Kenskill Travel Trailer

Question:

I have a 1965 Kenskill travel trailer 19.5 feet model and I need to replace the electric brakes, both motor and shoes. Can you quote the appropriate brakes based on my trailer, or do I need to measure the brakes?

I can help you find the brakes that you need for your trailer, but since there is no way of telling what any modifications might have been made on a vintage trailer and there is no database to get that information from you will need to measure your brakes.

When measuring your brakes you will want to measure from the outside edge of the pad to the outside edge of the pad both for the diameter and width. You can see this demonstrated at the 2:05 mark in the attached video. The brakes that are displayed in this video are from our Electric Trailer Brake Kit # AKEBRK-35-SA which includes both the driver side and passenger side brake assemblies. These particular assemblies have 10" diameter x 2-1/4" wide dimensions and are compatible with 13", 14", and 15" wheels. They work with 3,500 lb axles and have a 4 bolt mounting flange pattern (which are also important things to notice).

If you can let me know what the dimensions of your current brakes are, what your axle capacity is, and what the mounting flange bolt pattern is I can help you find the correct replacement brakes for you.
