Troubleshooting Sway With Blue Ox 1000 lb Swaypro
Updated 05/13/2020 | Published 07/24/2017 >
Question:
2008 Ford Expedition 5.4 towing 30JaycoJayfeather. Total trailer weight 6460. Tongue weight 850. Within the 10-15 recommended. Still sway with Blue Ox 1000 swaypro. If still swaying beyond 53mph, what would be the recommended adjustments to try? Reduce or increase tongue weight? Increase trailer weight? Adjust number of links ? Increase or decrease bow in sway bar through link adjustment? Should they be relatively straight? Or Is sway at 55+mph just something I need to get used to? I hope to improve towing safety by making adjustments, but not sure where to start and certainly dont want to make matters worse. Sway pro was installed by a professional at the dealership upon delivery of the trailer. Thanks for any tips you might recommend.

When continuing to experience sway while using the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control - Clamp On - 10,000 lbs GTW, 1,000 lbs TW # BXW1000, I recommend making adjustments. I don't recommend starting with making changes to your tongue weight, but rather adjusting the number of links. The bars are intended to have tension on them, so some bowing while under load is normal so it sounds like you can put a little more weight on your bars by increasing a link at a time until you are comfortable with your trailer at speeds of around 65 mph. If you go any faster than that, you will need to make sure your trailer tires are rated for faster speeds.

Can you over tighten the system? I just purchased a 31 foot TT (7500 empty, 747hitch weight) and the dealer ship convinced me to upgrade my WD hitch (easy lift 1000 with 2 friction bars). I loved this system, no sway at all... Very loud at slow speeds but never shook the truck/no sway. Took my new TT/hitch for the first ride and it scared me with the amount of sway.
