Weight Distribution Comparison Of A Blue Ox SwayPro And A Reese Straight-Line
Updated 05/04/2017 | Published 05/03/2017 >
Question:
Hi, I am towing a 21foot RV with dry weight of 4,400 and 440 tongue weight. I was given a Blue Ox weight distribution hitch that the manufacturer says has integrated sway control. However, I still have a lot of sway. I was thinking of switching over the the Reese Straight-lineinch to help remove more sway. What do you think? Or is there another option you recommend? I am only towing locally on flat roads but I did have a lot of sway problems when passed by a semi on the interstate. Thanks, Daniel Bandy Edwardsville, IL

For a tongue weight of roughly 500 lbs I recommend the Reese Straight-Line part # RP66082 in that dual cam system allows for a much more effective method of sway prevention in comparison to the Blue Ox SwayPro. In order to check the exact tongue weight of your trailer and loaded vehicle, you will need to calculate the loaded tongue weight of your trailer and any cargo loaded behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. The best way to do this is with our Tongue Weight Scale part # e99044.
The main difference between the Blue Ox Sway-Pro and the Reese Strait-Line lies is the process of how the sway is managed. The Reese Straight-Line features a dual cam sway control system which forces the spring bars to overcome the cam arm for sway to begin, the Blue Ox Sway-Pro utilizes a hanging chain system that applies a constant friction on the sway bars at the head.
In regards to customer reviews, the Reese Straight-Line seems to be much more efficient at sway prevention than the Blue Ox Sway-Pro, which can be attributed to the designs of each system and how they are setup to prevent trailer sway.
I have attached a few documents to consider for your review.
