Question:
How does the self adjusting mechanism work? I know for autos you have to brake in reverse, but that doesnt seem that it wold work for the electric brakes. My 10 inch brakes should arrive Wed.. Is that explained in the instructions?

Actually, it is recommended to make the very first brake adjustment manually on self-adjusting trailer brakes such as # AKEBRK-35-SA. This is so the brakes are ready to go without having to wait for them to adjust out while you drive (forward or reverse). Basically there is a device on the adjustment wheel on these brakes that prevents the shoes from adjusting back inward. You have to sort of move that out of the way to be able to turn the adjustment star wheel easier. The video I have linked is on a different brand but still shows the process. I also recommend adjustment spoon # W80630 to make things easier.
If you need new mounting hardware I recommend Mounting Hardware for 10" Brake Assemblies Item # BRKH10B to ensure you get all new parts.
