How can I turn the head so it will be straight in line with my trailer

Sounds like you are trying to connect to the Demco Hijacker Auto Slide # DM8550034 at an angle. That's one of the only quirks of this fifth wheel hitch is that you have to connect to it by backing straight to it. You can not connect to the hitch if you are backing up at an angle at all.
Reason being the head of this has to be straight otherwise the slider mechanism wants to move the head of the hitch.
