Ive got a 97 E150 without factory trailer tow/ brakes. We have already added a hitch and the 4 way harness. Im looking at the p2 prodigy controller and the ford 3035 harness for the front. My question is whether I can get a plug for the rear that will plug into the factory brake plug on the left frame rail. Such as the tekonsha 74682 but that appears to be for later model ford with factory tow.

The Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller # 90885 referenced in your question is a great choice. This proportional controller will activate your trailer's brakes at the same time and with the same intensity that you apply to them in your Ford E-150. It features a nice digital display along with continuous diagnostics that will alert you to potential issues.
As you mentioned, the Plug-In Wiring Adapter # 3035-P can be used to easily install the controller. One end of the adapter will plug into the controller itself and the other end will plug into the built-in harness beneath the dash.
To complete the installation and allow the brake controller to activate the trailer brakes, you will just need to install the Hopkins Adapter 4-Pole to 7-Pole and 4-Pole # 37185. This will convert the 4-pole wiring on your vehicle to the needed 7-pole round plug to connect with your trailer. You will just need to run the brake wire from the brake controller back to the plug. You can use 10 gauge wire like # 10-1-1 (sold by the foot) to reach this distance.
The Tekonsha Replacement Trailer Connector # 74682 referenced in your question is not designed to work on your 1997 Ford Van.
