Question:

how do you install the SMI DUO stay in play in a 2017 chevy Colorado since the negative side of the battery needs to be disconnected? there can be no grounds from the coach to the truck otherwise the truck still powers up. it seems like it may need a small 12v battery with a charge wire to power up the DUO and to supply power to the breakaway system

The owners manual states that you must remove the negative battery cable in order to flat tow the vehicle however, according to Roadmaster and multiple installations we have performed, you will only need to remove the positive terminal as the negative terminal will still need to be attached in order for proper functionality. To do this you will need the Roadmaster Automatic Battery Disconnect with Switch for Towed Vehicle w/ Supplemental Braking System part # RM-766 as this will allow you to easily switch back and forth from towing settings to driving settings without having to exit the vehicle (Will Not Work With Diesel Models).

In order to keep your vehicle's battery from dying while being towed, you will want to use charge line like the Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles part # RM-156-25.
