Question:

I have the above setup on my TT. Im in the process of repacking the bearings and replacing the seals. The seals that came off the hubs were a CR22550, which have an ID of 2.250. On this site I came across a seal, RG06-090, with an ID of 2.125. In my research this seal, the RG06-090, was listed as the proper replacement seal for Alko 5200 axles so I bought them and installed them. The fit seems tight but Im no seal expert so they may be right. They appear to function ok. I ended up breaking a lug while torquing my lug nuts. In my research on repairing that issue I ran across the Axle Tek BD655 hubs on your site and the ID on the included seal with the hub was a 2.250. Now my question, if youre still reading, should I switch out my seals and go back to the original 2.250 ID original seals or will the recommended seals with the 2.125 ID be ok? As Im now going to pull the hubs to replace all the lugs changing out the seals again isnt a big deal although if its not necessary Ill skip it. Thank you.

If the original seal had an inside diameter of 2.250, then that is the size I would stick with.

The inside diameter is what rides on the spindle so you would not want to go with a smaller seal as you mentioned. We have two seals that have the 2.250 I.D. dimension. The first is # GS-2250DL. It has a 2.250 I.D. and a 3.376 O.D.

The other seal we offer is part # SL226. This has a 2.250 I.D. and a 3.066 O.D.

I recommend using a digital caliper like part # PTW80157 and measure the spindle where the seal rides.
