Will this brand work on the back hatch of a Ford Windstar Minivan? Im trying to find an economical way of transporting our bikes but fear that this style isnt the right one for my van?

There is a good chance that the SportRack Trunk Mounted Bike Carrier, # SR3152, will fit your 2003 Ford Windstar. It is designed as a universal fit item to fit many vehicles but a specific list is not available. However, there are several trunk mount racks from Thule that are listed as a fit for your van.
The most economical is the Passage 3, # TH911XT. This rack can carry up to 3 bikes, has anti-sway cradles , and padded feet to protect vehicle paint. I have included a link to the installation details for reference. You may also be interested in the Adapter Bar, # TH982XT, for bikes that do not have a top frame bar that is parallel to the ground.
