What is Normal Wear for Trunnion Weight Distribution System
Updated 04/25/2017 | Published 04/24/2017 >
Question:
Hi, Just wondering how much wear and tear to the knobsinch on the trunnion bar is acceptable before considering replacement? And, if replacing due to wear and tear, should the head assembly be replaced as well?

Expert Reply:
It is fairly rare for a weight distribution system's head assembly to require replacement unless the system was mis-matched to the trailer, set up incorrectly or if the trunnions were allowed to get really worn down (which really should not happen either).
Proper selection, set-up and routine lubrication of the system should mean that after a good bit of use the black powder coat finish may be worn off but certainly no metal material should be worn away. Lubrication according to the particular system's instructions is important to both proper operation and longevity.
