Question:

Hi, quite a few months back I purchased a equalizer 12k hitch from you fine folks....since then I downgraded size of my TT to 6500lb with about 700 on the hitch. Will the 12k be too stiff for what I have or will it be fine?

The Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System # EQ37120ET referenced in your question has a tongue weight capacity range of 800 to 1,200 pounds. If your tongue weight remains within this range, this particular model will still be a good system for your setup. Keep in mind that your total tongue weight will also include any added weight coming from behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle, which will likely put the tongue weight of your trailer into this system's capacity range.

If your total tongue weight is truly around 700 pounds, then this Equal-i-zer System may cause a harsher ride when pulling your trailer. I recommend simply taking a couple of test drives with your new trailer to see how everything feels. A slightly over-rated system should not cause damage to anything, but if you feel like the ride is too stiff, switching to a lower rated system like the Equal-i-zer # EQ37100ET with a tongue weight capacity range of 600 to 1,000 pounds may be a good idea.
