Red Dot on Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller Stays On Even After Vehicle is Shut Off
Updated 04/13/2017 | Published 04/12/2017 >
Question:
Installed on a 2013 Chevy Tahoe. It appears to be working correctly however when the vehicle is shut off the red dot on the unit stays lit. Is it supposed to stay lit all the time? Concerned it might drain the battery. Thanks,

The red light that you see on your Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller # TK90160, even when the vehicle is turned off, will always be on and this is completely normal. I confirmed this information with my contact at Tekonsha.
The brake controller will go into a power saving mode after about 15 minutes of activity, and will only draw a few milliamps of power when in this mode. Even if your vehicle sat unused for months with the brake controller installed, the Primus IQ would still not draw enough power to drain the battery.
It sounds like everything is working as it should on the unit. Please feel free to let us know if you experience any other issues.
