Using Two Trailer Wiring Sockets At The Same Time On 2014 Ford F-250
Updated 04/10/2017 | Published 04/08/2017 >
Question:
I am mounting a truck cab over camper on a trailer for a variety of reasons. Camper has its own tail lights on a bumper that will hang over the back of the trailer and obscure the trailers tail lights. I have a bed mounted seven way plug and a hitch mounted seven way/4 way combo plug that are both live. I want to plug the camper into the bed mounted plug for tail lights and battery charging, but I need the electric brakes connected for the trailer as well. Can I simply plug the trailer into the hitch mounted plug at the same time to get the brakes? Would it be better to use the 4 way plug to hitch the trailer or does that not have brakes? I have a 2014 f250. Dont want to overload a circuit or get the voltage messages on the truck that says something is a fault. Thanks!

On your 2014 Ford F-250, you can use your two trailer plugs simultaneously. You should have enough amperage from your truck to not throw any types of messages, but even if it does send you a message on your dash, it should still function correctly. Since you will have a camper in the bed, I recommend using the bed 7-way for that and you can use an adapter like # PK12716 if needed for a 4-way. That will give your trailer wiring a little more slack for your wiring and allow you to tow a trailer with or without brakes.
