1000 or 1200 lb Equalizer Weight Distribution System Recommendation for GWVR Trailer 8800 lbs

Question:

I am interested in purchasing an Equilizer 4 way stabilizing weight distribution hitch, and I’m waffling between buying one with 1000lb or 1200lb spring bars. Weve purchased a new trailer that has a dry weight of 6500lbs and a dry tongue weight of 640lbs. The GVWR is 8800lbs, so using the 10-15 tongue weight rule, the tongue could weigh as much as 1320lbs. My problem is with the possible variation in the tongue weight. Depending on where we’re going and how long we will be gone, it could vary significantly from trip to trip sometimes we carry water, other times we dont. I would like to avoid purchasing two sets of spring bars if I can avoid it. Im concerned that the 1200lb bars could be stiff or the 1000lb bars could be ineffectual depending on how we’re loaded. At the moment, I dont have any concrete data, but I suspect we’d ever have a tongue weight lighter than 900lbs when properly loaded. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

If you want to go with one system the best option will be the 1,200 lb tongue weight kit # EQ37120ET. It would be better to have more tongue weight capacity than needed than not enough when needed. The ride might be a little more stiff when loaded lighter but you can compensate for that by lowering the spring bar tension.
