Replacement 12-1/4 x 3-3/8-Inch Hydraulic Brakes for 1999 Fleetwood Southwind

Question:

Will the Dexter 23-402 and 23-403 brake assemblies work as a direct replacement for the Dexter tag axle brakes on my 1999 Southwind motor home? The tag axle has 12 1/4inch X 3 3/8inch hydraulic brakes with a stamped metal backing plate not cast metal. All I really need is the brake shoes, but cannot find replacements. The brake assemblies with stamped metal backing plates no longer seem to exist either. I believe the tag axle has the 8k capacity rating based on the brake size. The brakes are mounted to the axle with 4 bolts.

Expert Reply:

Yes, you can use the right- and left-hand hydraulic drum brake assemblies # 23-403 and # 23-402 on your 1999 Southwind. These brakes use the same 4-bolt mounting pattern as your brake flanges and they are rated for 8K axles so the are a direct replacement.

For brake shoes you can use parts # BP04-260 and # BP04-270. I confirmed this with my technical contact at Redneck Trailer.
