Is it Recommended to Shorten the Length of the Titan Hitch Extension for 2-1/2 inch Trailer Hitches

Question:
Is it recommended to shorten the length of the hitch extension? I dont need the 48 inch lenght. I wnted to cut it down by 7 inches. The reason why is because I ould have to take my spare tire off to be able to put the extension at the 41 inch lenght.

Cutting the back of the Titan Hitch Box Extension for 2-1/2 inch Trailer Hitches, item # RP45018, off is not a concern as long as you leave at least 6 inches behind the center of the hitch pin hole, and you do not excessively heat the extension when cutting it off. Any other modification like drilling, grinding or cutting should be avoided.
