Quick Disconnect for 10 Gauge Ground Wire on 4- to 7-Way Trailer Wiring Adapter
Question:
U-haul installed a trailer hitch on my car with a 4-pin connector. My little trailer was originally set up with a 7-pin connector that hooked up to my truck. Recently I ordered a 7-pin to a 4-pin connector from you, e-trailer. I hooked it up but the lights on the trailer didnt work right. I took the trailer back to u-haul and they said I needed a ground wire from the car to the ground wire on the 7-pin to the 4-pin connector. They kindly put a ground wire on the car and wired it directly to my 4 to 7-pin ground wire. They told me I needed to put a quick disconnect wire between the ground wire so I can completely disconnect the 4-pin from the car. Right now, if I disconnect, the connector, it still stays with the car because the ground wire is permanently wired together. I need to cut the white ground wire to completely disconnect my 4 to 7-pin connector from my car. What I am saying is, when I disconnect the 4-pin connector from the car, the white ground wire is still connected permanently. I need a single heavy duty, water resistant connector that I can quickly disconnect the ground when disconnecting this 4 to 7-pin. I went to the hardware store and the auto parts store and the only thing that was heavy enough was a two pole wire connector. I cant find a one pole. Any suggestons?

It looks like you ordered # 30717 but what would have been ideal for your situation is # 37185 which would retain the 4-Way while adding a 7-Way so you would not have had to disconnect anything if you wanted to tow a trailer with a 4-Way.
You have some options. You could have a separate disconnect set up for the ground wire, replace the adapter you have with # 37185, or use a 7- to 4-Way adapter such as # PK12716.
For quick disconnects your best bet would be # BDW20047 provided the ground wire is 10 gauge or slightly larger which is what it should be. You would just use one of the slots in each connector. Considering the cost of quick disconnects the better option would be # 37185 or # PK12716.
