You want a reliable vehicle that is comfortable for you and your family so that you can still explore outside of the motorhome. For a nice vehicle to flat tow that is under your weight restrictions I recommend a 2017 Chevy Equinox. Flat towing components are fairly vehicle specific, so if you decide on a different vehicle I can give you some recommendations. If you go with a 2017 Equinox, here are the components I recommend:

For baseplates, I recommend the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit # BX1689. This will work with or without the adaptive cruise control or Active Air Shutters. I strongly suggest using Loctite Threadlocker # LT37420 for this installation.

For your tow bar, I recommend using the Blue Ox Alpha Tow Bar - Motor Home Mount - 6,500 lbs # BX7380 with these base plates. This will come with the safety cables you need. I recommend getting the lock kit # BX88101 to secure your investment.

For your tow bar wiring, I recommend the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267. This will utilize your factory wiring while protecting it from overload. It will give you clean connections at the front of your Equinox with a 6-way trailer connection. You will also want to use the Roadmaster FuseMaster Fuse Bypass - 13" - 20-Amp Mini-Fuse # RM76511 so you won't need to pull a fuse each time you flat tow. This will give you an easy push button switch instead.

For your supplemental braking system, I recommend the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System - Proportional # SM99251. This will only require one adjustment at initial installation and then will not require any further adjustments. It becomes a plug and play system. Our installers love this product for its ease of installation as well as its track record. You will need the Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-88400.
