Question:
Which item do you suggest for a 2000 Toyota 4runner 4x4? The PW1042 or the PW2028C? The tires that we are running are 275/70/16s? Also - do we need only one set, or two? Please let me know.

Selecting tire chains for your 2000 Toyota 4runner 4x4, will depend on the conditions you will be using them in. If you plan on using snow chains only once in a great while and on the road only then the Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains for Light Trucks, item # PW2028C, that you selected would be a good choice. I would recommend a set of the Glacier Rubber Adjusters for Light-Truck Snow Chains, item # PW99 along with these cables.
If you will be using the chains more often and in a bit more extreme conditions, but still on the road, you might want to check out the Titan Chains # TC3229SCAM square link chains with cam tighterners, which are much more aggressive and would work better in icy conditions. I would recommend a set of the Glacier Rubber Adjusters for Light-Truck Snow Chains, item # PW99 along with these chains.
Finally, if you will be using the chains in extreme conditions and possibly off road, I would recommend the Glacier V-Bar Snow Tire Chains with Cam Tighteners for Light Trucks, item # PWH2828SC, These are some of the most agressive chains that we offer for your tire size and will perform well in extreme snow and ice conditions. These chains feature cam tighteners to pull each chain taut around the tires.
You should install your snow chains on the main drive axle (rear) of your vehicle. If you would like to install chains on the front also, that can be done and will help with your 4x4 vehicle. Normally one set of snow chains is sufficient, and I would only consider two sets for the most extreme circumstances. I have added a link to some snow chain information that you may find helpful.
