Trailer Tire Recommendation for Replacing ST215/75R14

Question:

I have a large triple axel boat trailer running ST215/75R 14 tires with load range C. I seem to go through tires frequently separations and blowouts even though the Boat makes only one round trip of about 750 miles a year to Lake Powell. I keep it in dry storage during the summer and bring it back to a covered warehouse during the winter During the summer, the trailer sits outside with extremely hot temperatures. I have used both Commodore and Towmaster tires with the same results. Load ratings are 1870 @ 50 psi. I have been told I ought to go to 15 in wheels with a D rating. Will 15 inch wheels with a D rating make a big difference or should I stay with 14 in and a D rating. If do go to 15 inch what size tires should be on those wheels? Only on very rare occasions have the tires gone in excess of 65 mph downhill I have gone as fast as 75mph for a short periods of time. Would you recommend High Speed tires? I am very interested in getting new wheels and tires from Etrailer.

Going with trailer tires with higher speed ratings will certainly help for long distances as they will withstand heat better at highway speeds.

Typically the other things that kill trailer tires are under-inflation and overloading. Keep the tires inflated to their max PSI ratings at all times and that will help considerably.

For your tire size the part # TTWTRTM2157514D would be a great option. It has a 2,200-lb max load at 65 psi capacity and a speed rating of 81 mph.
