Recommended Base Plates and Braking System to Flat Tow A 2016 or 2017 Ford Edge

Published 12/30/2016

Question:

For a 2016 or 2017 Ford Edge, I'd recommend the Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms, # BX2667 for SE and SEL models excluding 2.0L EcoBoost. These base plates are a custom fit for specific vehicles, so depending on what vehicle trim/model you purchase, you will want to make sure you get the right base plates. I recommend the Blue Ox Patriot Radio Frequency Portable Braking System # BRK2016 for your braking needs. This is a proportional braking system that will give you full-power emergency braking or slow-to-an-idle action with the same system. The brakes are activated at the same time and with the same intensity in your Ford Edge as they are in the RV. The brake system mounts easily in towed vehicle and plugs into a 12V outlet. You will need a 12V outlet like # RM-9332. The actuator is positioned on the floor in front of the driver's seat and a bracket clamps around the brake pedal. This system includes a breakaway device. You will also need a tow bar, and I recommend the Blue Ox Alpha # BX7380. This tow bar comes with the safety cables you will need. The vehicle wiring I recommend is the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267. This will allow you utilize your factory wiring while still protecting your electronics. I've attached an installation video for you. You will also want a battery disconnect with switch like # RM-766. You will also need Stop Light Switch # RM-751475. You will also need the wiring from your Motorhome to your Edge like # HM47115 for a 4-way to 4-way. You will also need the # 787196 adapter for a 7-way to 4-way connection. I've attached some articles to help. Let me know when you purchase your vehicle and I'd be happy to give you assistance in getting everything you need.

I can't guarantee that a maintainer would give you enough of a charge to not need the disconnect switch like the # RM-766. I have not heard of the lunch e, so I can't comment on that. What you can do to maintain your battery is use a 7 way to 6 way like # HM47054 between your vehicles and use the power lead to maintain your battery in your Edge Sport. You will need 10 gauge wire to run from a 7 way connector to your positive battery terminal like the # 10-1-1 that we sell by the foot. I've attached a help article that shows you the functions that would need to be connected for your 4 way and power wire in the Edge.
