How to Know When to Replace the Kenda 4.80-12 Bias Trailer Tire AM30580
Published 09/16/2016 >
Question:
The tread on these is about 2/32 out of the box using the penny test. How do you know when to change your tire?

Expert Reply:
There are wear bars between the treads of the # AM30580 that once the tread of the tire has worn down to that level it would be time to replace them. Look for a raised rubber section between the treads of the tires that are higher than the base of the treads.
That being said most trailer tires don't end up wearing out before its time to replace them. Typically age is what causes them to need replacement. You want to replace them at around 6 years of age or if you see dry rotting or cracking.
