I can help tell you the difference between the two Curt brake controllers, but I would like to also suggest a third; the Curt TriFlex # C51140.

Instead of going with a Time Delayed Brake Controller, I would instead recommend you use a Proportional Controller like the # C51140 for your Aliner. The TriFlex is a proportional brake controller which means it senses how the tow vehicle is slowing or stopping and applies the trailer's brakes with the same intensity.

A time delay controller is so named because there is a delay between the time that you initially apply the brakes in your tow vehicle and the time that the controller reaches maximum power output. Unlike the proportional brake controller, which activates your trailer's brakes based on the deceleration of your tow vehicle, a time-delayed controller sends power out in the same way, with the same gradual delay, no matter the braking situation. Although this delay always exists, it can be adjusted by changing the sync setting. A time-delayed brake controller doesn't rely on internal parts to sense braking motions of the tow vehicle. This allows you to mount the controller at any angle. Time delayed is older technology and while it still works for this purpose it is not very desirable among towers like proportional braking is.

The main difference between the Curt Venture # C51110 and the Discovery # C51120 is that the Discovery is for trailers with 1-4 axles and the Venture is 1-3 axles. They are both time delayed controllers that are intended for electric brakes only and both come with a limited lifetime warranty. If you wanted a time delayed controller, I would go with the Discovery over the Venture because of the digital display versus the LED display personally.

If you do not have the 7-way on your 2006 Jeep Liberty, I recommend the # ETBC7 kit because it will have what you need to adapt a 4-way connection to the 7-way for the brake controller. If you need a 4-way for your vehicle you will need # C55382.

I have linked the above mentioned products to this page for your convenience.
